Say you’re overseas on holiday at maybe a beach resort. Unfortunately the rain isn’t helping with the experience and has forced you to stay in your room. Now instead of just staying in and watching TV or sleeping, how about going on a virtual reality trip? That’s kind of what Marriott Hotels, in collaboration with Samsung, plans to offer their guests.
Dubbed VRoom Service, basically guests in Marriott’s hotels are able to request for a Samsung Gear VR headset and a pair of headphones. Together with the headset, it allows guests to travel pretty much anywhere around the world in the comfort of their own room. Maybe you’re bored, maybe you want to plan your next holiday, whatever the case is, the service is there.
According to Matthew Carroll, vice president, Marriott Hotels, “Travel expands our minds and helps push our imagination. Our guests want to be in inventive spaces that help foster their creativity and thinking.VRoom combines storytelling with technology, two things that are important to next generation travelers.”
This service is only available at the New York Marriott Marquis, and the London Marriott Park Lane properties where it is being trialed for two weeks. Presumably if it is well-received, Marriott could eventually roll it out on a wider scale.
