sony-xperia-z3-z3v-review-08There have been some rumors suggesting that Sony could be planning to exit the smartphone business. In fact recent comments have suggested that the mobile division at Sony has a year to break even, otherwise other scenarios would be considered, which we can only assume could mean selling it off.

That being said, it seems that Sony has once again denied rumors of their exit. According to Sony Mobile’s General Manager in Taiwan, Jonathan Lim, he claims that the company has not made such considerations. Lim goes on to state that he had a conversation with Sony Mobile’s CEO Hiroki Totoki in which it was suggested that Sony would actually be increasing their mobile efforts.

Lim was quoted as saying, “On the contrary, Sony Mobile will offer phones that will have better screens, improved cameras and will be more energy efficient to enable a better user experience.” If anything this sounds like it could be good news for fans of Sony’s mobile products.

It is also in line with an earlier report in which it revealed that Sony had actually opened a new mobile factory in Thailand, their first new factory in 20 years which if anything is the opposite of exiting the business. We guess we will just have to wait and see what Sony has in store for us in the future.
