iPadPro_Lifestyle-Editing-PRINTIt is no secret that tablets aren’t selling as much compared to smartphones. Why is this? Tablets have a different use compared to smartphones which are required everyday to make calls and to stay in contact with others. Tablets on the other hand might be only used for surfing the web, watching videos, reading comics, and so on.

In fact it was earlier this year that even Apple acknowledged that their iPads weren’t selling as much as before, which is why it doesn’t come as a complete surprise to learn that according to industry sources, tablet sales are expected to further slump in 2016. This is based on a report from DigiTimes, citing sources from integrated chip suppliers.

According to the report, it claims that due to the rise of the phablet, tablet sales have taken a hit and are expected to decline anywhere between 10-20% in 2016. It goes on to add that Android tablets might ship less than 160 million units this year, and will fall to around 120-130 million units next year. Apparently the situation is bad enough where some integrated chip makers are forced to leave the tablet-IC market.

Of course all of this is just speculation and opinion at the moment, but with the launch of larger tablets like the iPad Pro, the Google Pixel C, and the Surface Pro 4, it could usher in a new era of tablets and appeal to entirely new markets, but we suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.
