renault wind powered carsOver on the Scottish Hebrides Islands, the wind conditions are strong which is why over the course of 12-years, a wind farm was built and developed to take advantage of those conditions and to help provide residents with a form of clean and renewable source of energy. Now it seems that the energy will also be used to help power electric cars.

Now the wind won’t actually power the cars themselves, but rather the wind will be used to power the generators, which in turn will provide electricity to help charge/power the electric cars from Renault. Either way if you’re a fan of clean, renewable, and sustainable energy, then the Scottish Hebrides Islands might be worth visiting.

There will be a total of nine cars which includes Renault Zoe hatchbacks and one Kangoo ZE van. They will be available for rental to residents of the island or to visitors on an hourly basis, with the energy used to charge these vehicles coming from the Pentland Road wind farm. The availability of these cars is one step further into helping make the Scottish Hebrides Islands greener.

Given that they are cut off from the mainland, access to the grid’s infrastructure is difficult which is why for the most part, they have relied on sustainable energy like wind, solar, and hydroelectric generators.
