fitbit_heartbreakBreaking up sucks and the heartbreak that follows is worse, did you know that your heartbreak can actually be measured? Turns out it can, sort of. In a report from BuzzFeed News, they recently spoke to a certain Koby Soto who had recently broke up with his boyfriend over the phone.

According to an interview with BuzzFeed News, Soto said, “He said that we’re going to have to cancel, and I said ‘Why?’ and he said, ‘Things are not working as they should.’ I said, ‘Are you serious? You’re doing this over the phone?’” Naturally he was stunned and in disbelief, and during a venting session with a friend, Soto expressed how this breakup left him unable to sleep or study.

To prove his point, he pulled out his Fitbit app to show his heart rate, which to his surprise revealed the exact moment in which he received the call from his (ex)boyfriend informing him of the breakup. As you can see in the screenshot above, it shows that around noon his heart rate spikes and continue to spike till around 118, before starting to drop towards midnight.

Soto seems to think that this is a pretty cool feature, since essentially it marks a point in your life that you can show to others. “I feel like it’s nice to have a log of your confirmation of what you felt. You can tell people you have heartbreak and you feel bad. People become less cynical once you show them the numbers or once you show the data or graphs. Everyone understands heartbreak, right? Everyone’s felt it. When you have this, it’s interesting — you have something to show.”
