samsung logo 4The Dutch Consumentenbond, which happens to be the biggest consumer protection watchdog in The Netherlands, has just filed a suit against South Korean conglomerate Samsung. Samsung, the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, is slapped with the accusation of not offering timely software updates for its slew of Android smartphones that are numerous.

According to the agency, it had to take this step since it did discuss the matter privately with Samsung prior, and taking into consideration that not much has been done (some say nothing at all) to alleviate the situation, a lawsuit would be the only path to move forward after there was no way both parties arrived at an agreement.

The Consumentenbond claims that Samsung is guilty of unfair trade practices, citing that Samsung failed to mention in explicit terms for how long customers should expect to wait before receiving software updates. Apart from that, Samsung has been cited for not laying out all their cards concerning critical security updates, including the one that is needed to ensure that the Stagefright exploits are no longer a threat. Of course, the Dutch Consumentenbond also said that Samsung is the biggest and most obvious target due to their grip over the local market, despite other manufacturers being equally guilty.
