Given the space theme of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the use of technology that doesn’t exist in today’s world, it is pretty obvious that the filmmakers had to resort to the use of a lot of special effects and computer graphics to make the entire movie seem plausible. However have you ever wondered what the movie looks like without its effects?

Thanks to a video put together by Lucasfilm and uploaded onto the Oscar’s official YouTube page, it basically shows what portions of the movie looks like prior to the special effects being added in. Safe to say a lot of green screen was used as well as huge movie sets, and for those interested in filmmaking, this is quite an eye-opener.

In fact we have to say that it is also pretty impressive to see the various actors interacting with objects that they have to imagine, making their performance even more amazing. It’s also pretty exciting to see how a puppeteer was used to control the BB-8 droid, as well as seeing Adam Driver (who plays Kylo Ren) act without his helmet, although we’re not sure they had to digitally impose that on him.

In any case it’s a rather fascinating watch and if you have about 10 minutes or so to spare, it could be worth checking out.
