We’ve all known for some time now that Nintendo is working on a new console that’s known as the Nintendo NX. The company has been providing hints about the new console and the latest suggests that it doesn’t view the upcoming console as a successor to what it currently offers. Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has actually branded the NX as a “new way of playing games.”

The company hasn’t revealed much about the console and there have been a few leaks, even if some of them were found to be false, so there’s a bit of a mystery surrounding Nintendo’s new console.

Speaking with The Asahi Shimbun, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima described the Nintendo NX as something very new. “The hardware, the software lineup, all of it is something I’d like to play for the first time myself,” he said.

Kimishima was asked about the impact the NX will have on the Wii U’s sales when it comes out. He acknowledged that the Wii U sales will slow down, but mentioned that “the NX is neither the successor to the Wii U nor to the 3DS.”

He doesn’t feel that it’s a pure replacement for the Wii U, rather he describes the console as a new way of playing games which he believes will have a larger impact than the Wii U.

Nintendo NX is slated to arrive in March next year.
