Update – LG has reached out to Ubergizmo and has informed us that the Rolling Bot “has not been greenlit for production yet”, meaning it’s not available for sale or pre-order in the short term. It is possible that the listing on Mobile Fun was made in error. Previously, a listing made it appear as if the Rolling Bot was going to be available soon:

Earlier this year, LG unveiled an interesting robot called the LG Rolling Bot. The idea is that this little robot can roll around your home and can also be remotely controlled by the owner. It has been pitched as an entertainment device for your pets to give them something to chase after and make them active when you’re away.

It has also been pitched as a surveillance tool where it can roll around the entire house and stream its video feed to the user. Now for those who were intrigued by the device, you will be pleased to learn that LG has finally put up the device for pre-order where the folks at Mobile Fun have listed it on their website where it is priced at $249.

We have to admit that it is rather expensive as far as surveillance systems are concerned, but because of its mobility, we reckon that it could cover areas that your cameras might normally miss, but then again we guess you’ll have to decide whether or not your home is really in such dire need of protection in the first place.

The Rolling Bot will come with an 8MP camera, a set of speakers, and an IR blaster which could come in handy when it comes to controlling certain household appliances, like air conditioners. The device will also play nicely with non-Android and non-LG handsets as well.
