Sony confirmed last week that it will soon be rolling out the next major update for PlayStation 4 in beta to members of the public beta program. Those who are enrolled in the program are receiving emails with instructions on how to download the beta firmware today. Sony has taken this opportunity to provide more details about what the next major PlayStation 4 update is going to bring.
Sony has made a considerable amount of improvements to the PlayStation 4’s main user interface. Changes that users will notice immediately include new system backgrounds, a revised What’s New tab, updated popup notifications, and redesigned system icons.
The Quick Menu has been overhauled in this update – this menu can be activated by pressing and holding the PS button on the controller. It’s faster and easier to use and it only covers a portion of the screen now which means players don’t have to leave gameplay entirely. The Share Menu has been similarly overhauled.
With this update, PlayStation 4 owners will also get the ability to create folders on PS4’s content launcher and in the Library. This will help them easily organize their favorite games and apps to reduce clutter on the home screen.
Additional minor improvements that are included in PlayStation 4 system software 4.0 have been detailed on official PlayStation blog. Sony hasn’t confirmed precisely when this update is going to be released but it’s going to provide more information about its new features in the coming weeks.
