topshop jacketWhen we think of wearable tech, you might think of smartwatches and fitness bands, but let’s think about the name itself, “wearable” which means something that can be worn, such as clothing. Now the idea of smart clothing isn’t new, but if you’re hoping that it will become mainstream, it could thanks to the help of Topshop.

The company has recently chosen smart fabric startup The Crated as the winner of the company’s Top Pitch bootcamp, and together with The Crated, they will be working on creating a “heated garment prototype”, in which The Crated will be providing the tech, while Topshop will be granting them access to their design team.

We’re not sure what the final product will be like, but basically it sounds like it could some kind of jacket or sweater in which you could control the heat, but we’re just guessing. According to Sheena Sauvaire, Topshop’s global marketing and comms director, “The Crated achieved the balance between style and function; its focus on textiles to create next generation smart clothing using heat technology is simple, with a clear purpose for the consumer.”

However like we said, they will be working on a prototype which means that there is no guarantee that it will become an actual product since there are many things to take into consideration, but who knows, maybe it will.
