Now that the first major update for Windows 10 – called Windows 10 Anniversary Update – has been released, the company has started working on the next major update for this iteration of its operating system. It’s gradually revealing the new features that will be included in the next update and one of those features might be blue light reduction. References to this feature have been discovered in the latest Windows 10 insider build.

The Windows 10 Insiders program is moving on with full steam ahead. Microsoft regularly releases beta builds for the community before they are released to the public. The builds often reveal some of the new features that the company has in the pipeline.

References to a “BlueLightReduction” setting have been discovered in the latest beta of Windows 10. The name itself is self-explanatory, and it appears that this setting will be toggled from the Action Center in Windows 10.

It will do what the name suggests. Turning this feature on will reduce blue light on the screen thus making it easier for users to continue using their devices late at night.

Third-party apps like F.lux are already available for Windows and other platforms that do precisely this so it’s not like Microsoft is breaking new ground with this feature. Nevertheless, users will appreciate having a native blue light reduction option in Windows 10 .

Since Windows 10 now powers more than just desktops and notebooks, expect this feature on Windows 10 Mobile handsets as well. The second major Windows 10 update is going to be released early next year.
