xbox-one-hands-on-review-05With Microsoft’s Project Scorpio only planned for a release in 2017, it is understandable that the company has yet to come up with a price for the console. The company has also been a bit cagey when the topic of pricing comes up, like in an earlier report where Microsoft’s Albert Penello told Eurogamer that it will be an “interesting discussion” for the future.

While it seems that Microsoft is still keeping mum on the price of the console, Xbox boss Phil Spencer told the folks at NZ Gamer (via IGN) in an interview that we shouldn’t worry about it. When the publication brought up the issue on price, especially how with its upgraded hardware it should technically be more expensive, Spencer says we shouldn’t be worried about price shock.

He was quoted as saying, “So you can see the price of the S today. When we designed both of these, which we kind of designed it in parallel. We thought about the price performance of what we wanted to hit with the Scorpio, relative to what we were going to be able to do with the S. So that we would have a good price continuum, so people wouldn’t look at these two things as so disconnected because of the price delta.”

He then adds, “So I think you will feel like it’s a premium product, a premium console. And not something, anything more than that. So I wouldn’t get people worried that this thing is going to be unlike any console price you’ve ever seen. We didn’t design it that way.” We still don’t know what this means, but ultimately it sounds like we shouldn’t expect anything ridiculous when it comes to pricing.
