qualcomm-snapdragon-clearsightThe Xiaomi Mi 5s/5s Plus was launched last month and the phone represents quite a bit of firsts. For example it uses Qualcomm’s Sense ID ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, something that not many OEMs have adopted, and recently it was also revealed that Xiaomi had adopted the Qualcomm Clear Sight camera tech as well.

For those unfamiliar, Qualcomm revealed that they had been working on a piece of camera technology called Clear Sight. It was designed for dual camera setups, something that apparently will be the future of smartphone photography as we have seen companies such as Huawei and Apple include it in their products, and Xiaomi as well with the Mi 5s Plus.

Xiaomi is also the first OEM to use the Clear Sight camera tech and in case you missed the previous announcement, Clear Sight works by taking two photos: one in color and one in black and white. The latter is able to absorb more light when in turn allows for more detail and less noise, so when merging the color and black and white photos together, it should result in a photo with more dynamic range.

Now since Xiaomi has yet to break into the US smartphone market, we can’t really get our hands on the Mi 5s Plus so it’s hard to say how well it truly performs, but in theory it should be able to pull off some pretty amazing photos.
