mortal kombat xAs far as official Mortal Kombat movies are concerned, we have two: one from 1995 dubbed Mortal Kombat, and the other in 1997 dubbed Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Safe to say that neither movie was considered a cinematographic masterpiece, but in their own way they became cult classics.

Now you might have heard that a reboot of the Mortal Kombat movie franchise is in the works and now according to a report from Variety, the movie might have found its director in Simon McQuoid. If you’re unfamiliar with McQuoid’s name, you can’t be blamed because the director is known more for his commercials than movies.

According to Variety, McQuoid has been linked to many big brand commercials in the past, such as PlayStation, Halo, Range Rover, Beats by Dre, just to name a few. As to whether his skills will translate well into a movie remains to be seen, but we’re guessing that he must be good if the movie’s producers are considering him for the position.

The movie will be produced by James Wan who in case you’re unfamiliar, was the director/producer behind a bunch of horror movies, such as the Saw franchise, the Conjuring, and will also be directing DC’s Aquaman. No word on when the Mortal Kombat movie will be released, but Wan did state that they are planning to take their time with it. In the meantime you can check out an example of McQuoid’s work below.
