overwatch_summer_gamesWith every new franchise released by game developers comes a huge risk as to whether or not players will react positively to it. Some franchises have become extremely successful and have spanned years of sequels, expansions, and so on, such as is the case with Blizzard’s Diablo franchise, and it looks like the company has another hit on their hands: Overwatch.

According to Activision’s latest financials, the company revealed that Overwatch is Blizzard’s fastest game to reach 20 million players. “Overwatch became Blizzard’s fastest game ever to reach over 20 million players globally, with a roughly even player base split between east and west. Overwatch also held the number one position in share of play time in Korean Internet Game Rooms from launch all the way through the third-quarter.”

It is no secret that Overwatch has done really well since its release, and with Blizzard staying on top of things by introducing new maps, modes, and heroes, it should be enough to keep players entertained. Plus Blizzard has also been actively cracking down on cheaters in the game by banning them right off the bat, it has helped make community less toxic. Where Blizzard goes from here remains to be seen, but so far it looks like they’re on the right path.
