samsung-link-terminationIf you use a Samsung phone, there’s a good chance you might have come across the Samsung Link app, or as it was previously known as the Samsung AllShare Play app until 2013 where it was revamped and renamed to the Samsung Link. However it looks like for some reason, Samsung has decided to kill it.

As noted by SamMobile, it was only a few days ago that the Samsung Link app was updated, so it does seem a bit odd that Samsung would decide to kill it so quickly. After all why bother updating an app you’re planning on getting rid off, right? Samsung has since sent notices to its users (see screenshot to the right) informing them of the app’s termination.

In an FAQ posted on their website, it reads, “Samsung Link will no longer be available as of [08:00 AM, November 1, 2016, GMT+9] according to internal policy (‘Effective Date’): Although the Samsung Link service will no longer be supported, all files stored on registered devices and cloud services will not be deleted. You can access those remaining files from each device’s and cloud storage’s website/application.” It unfortunately does not state the reason why.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the Samsung Link app, it basically allowed users to remotely access and manage files across Samsung devices over WiFi as long as they shared the same Samsung account. Users could also upload photos and videos to their PC or cloud storage services. Like we said it is rather sudden and hopefully Samsung will have an answer as to why.
