owc-dec-macbook-pro[CES 2017] Maybe in the next 2-3 years when USB-C accessories are more commonplace we can truly appreciate the changes that Apple has made to its 2016 MacBook Pro laptops. However until then, the lack of traditional ports is pretty frustrating and expensive for early adopters of the technology, but OWC is here to help.

The company known for their memory modules for Apple’s computers has announced at CES 2017 the OWC DEC. This is a base addon for your MacBook Pro that will not only include all the ports that Apple removed, but it will also allow users to expand the storage of the laptop, which we guess more or less functions like a massive external hard drive.

The ports that will be part of the OWC DEC include an SD card slot, USB Type-A ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and it is made from aircraft grade aluminum and designed to mimic the MacBook Pro so it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. It also boasts an additional 4TB of storage.

Granted the end result is a noticeably thicker MacBook Pro, but OWC says that overall the thickness should be the same as the 2012 MacBook Pro models, so we guess it isn’t so bad. No word on pricing but the DEC is expected to begin shipping out to customers in the spring of 2017.
