TCL may have the rights to manufacture and sell BlackBerry-branded handsets in most markets across the globe but the rights to the Indonesian market rest with BB Merah Putih. We had been hearing reports that this company was working on a new mid-range BB handset called the BlackBerry Aurora and that has turned out to be true. BB Merah Putih has officially launched the BlackBerry Aurora today.

BlackBerry Aurora is the first handset launched by BB Merah Putih following the licensing agreement that it signed with the Canadian company back in September last year.

It’s also the first BB-branded device ever to be produced in Indonesia. This device has been designed with the Indonesian customer in mind and promises all of the security features that customers would expect from a BB handset.

This mid-range device has a 5.5 inch HD display with a Snapdragon 425 processor under the hood coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. It also features a 13 megapixel rear and 8 megapixel front camera, dual-SIM support, a 3,000mAh battery, and runs on Android 7.0 Nougat.

The handset can be purchased starting tomorrow through pre-orders via multiple online e-commerce stores in Indonesia from tomorrow. It’s priced at Rp. 3,499,000 which is about $260.

If you’re looking to pick up a BlackBerry handset yourself, perhaps you should consider the TCL-made BlackBerry KEYOne which will be widely available across the globe in a few weeks.
