It is no secret that at one point in time Facebook tried to acquire Snapchat, although it seems that their efforts were largely unsuccessful. Following that, Facebook then tried to create products and services that would mimic some of Snapchat’s features, and we think the company’s recent Stories feature seems to be catching on.

That being said it looks like Facebook might have borrowed another one of Snapchat’s features in the form of Geostickers. In an announcement on Instagram’s website, Geostickers basically allows users to post stickers in their stories that shows their location. Users can add location, the weather, the time, and there will be various stickers that are contextual depending on where you are located.

According to Instagram, “You can add as many stickers as you want, adjust their size and placement and mix and match with other creative tools. Just like the customizable location sticker, people watching your story can tap a geosticker to see the location page. Your story won’t show up on the location page itself.”

At the moment it seems that these Geostickers are only available in New York in the US, and Jakarta in Indonesia. However as Instagram puts it, they expect that more cities will be made available soon so do keep an eye out for it.
