If there is one shortcoming to Instagram it is that photos can only be uploaded via its mobile app. Now this isn’t to say that you can’t upload it from your computer as there are workarounds, but in terms of an official method, there isn’t one. However Instagram could be getting there according to a report from TechCrunch.

Originally spotted by Matt Navarra, according to the report, it seems that Instagram has given its mobile website an upgrade where users can now upload photos from its mobile website instead of going through the app. Ultimately you would still need to use a phone to upload your photos, but if you wanted a more stripped down version of Instagram or if you can’t be bothered to download the app for whatever reason, uploading from its mobile website is now possible.

In a statement provided to TechCrunch when they asked about the feature, an Instagram rep told them, “Instagram.com (accessed from mobile) is a web experience optimized for mobile phones. It’s designed to help people have a fuller experience on Instagram no matter what device or network they are on.”

Given that Instagram is owned by Facebook which has apps like Facebook Lite that are designed for emerging markets where internet speeds might not be as fast, or phones might not have that much storage, this version of Instagram could also appeal to the same users. We’re still hoping that eventually Instagram will introduce an official desktop uploading feature, but for now we guess this will have to do.
