Lots of companies across the globe are serious about self-driving cars and how they will transform the way we move from one point to the other. However, it’s not exactly easy to test new self-driving car technologies in the real-world given that there are strict rules which regulate the use of autonomous driving cars on public roads. South Korea found its solution in this matter by deciding to build a city for self-driving cars.
The Korea Business Times reports that South Korea is going to open its 88 acre facility in the near future. The city is going to have all of the conditions that a car would ordinarily face on a public road. The autonomous cars will find almost everything that they will encounter out in the real world, such as parking areas, expressways, and bus-only lanes.
This is going to be the largest facility in the world for road testing self-driving cars. Companies that are interested can head on down to South Korea and start testing their technologies without having to worry about restrictive permits that allow use of these cars on public roads.
It’s called K-City and over $17 million have been spent on creating this playground for self-driving cars. Expressway testing begins in October this year while the entire facility will be opened by mid-2018.
