When you think of streaming TV shows and movies online, Netflix might come to mind, and it looks like the company is expanding its horizons as they have made their first acquisition. Interestingly enough this acquisition has nothing to do with streaming technology, TV shows, or movies, but rather it has to do with comic books.

In a report from Variety, it seems that Netflix’s first acquisition is a comic book publisher called Millarworld, who for those unfamiliar was founded by Mark Millar, the creator of various characters and stories, such as Kick-Ass, Kingsman, and Old Man Logan, so safe to say that the company has quite a few big names that is part of its portfolio.

In a way you could say that Netflix could start getting into the comic book business, but it seems that Netflix’s interest in the company isn’t so much about publishing comics, but rather they are interested in their portfolio which they do plan to develop movies, TV shows, and kids series around it.

In a statement made by Millar, “This is only the third time in history a major comic book company has been purchased at this level. I’m so in love with what Netflix is doing and excited by their plans. Netflix is the future, and Millarworld couldn’t have a better home.” Netflix’s acquisition makes them the third studio to acquire a comic publisher, following Warner Bros. acquiring DC Comics in 1968, and Disney buying Marvel in 2009.
