If you feel that Sony’s flagship smartphones look too dated now, you can rejoice because the company has confirmed that its upcoming flagship is going to feature an entirely new design. This has been confirmed by Kenichiro Hibi who is Sony’s managing director in India. He confirmed to a local news outlet that Sony’s next-generation flagship smartphone will have a completely new design.

Speaking to the Indian Express, Hibi said that Sony’s next-generation flagship smartphone is going to have an entirely new design. He made these comments on the sidelines of the Xperia XZ1’s launch in India.

“We have deployed an omnibalance design as long as the X series continues to be available in the market,” Hibi explained, adding that “we are planning to launch new generation of products and you can expect a complete new design from the devices.”

As many of you are well aware, the “bezel-less” trend has taken over the premium segment of the market this year and it’s possible that Sony might jump on the bandwagon with its next flagship. However, the company hasn’t shared any information about the new handset so it’s unclear what it will bring to the table.

Sony normally unveils new handsets at the Mobile World Congress event. The 2018 iteration of the event will take place early next year so we’ll get to see whatever the company has been working on in a few months.
