Huawei is finally going to unveil its new flagship smartphones next week. It has been teasing the Mate 10 for a while now. Reports suggest that Huawei is going to launch three Mate 10 models and if a new report is to be believed, at least one of the new models is going to ship with a smartpen. In case you didn’t know, a smartpen is different from a stylus.

Serial Twitter leakster @evleaks has tweeted a new image of the Huawei Mate 10 Pro which hints that the device is going to come with a smartpen. As previously mentioned, a smartpen isn’t like a conventional stylus. It’s something else entirely.

A smartpen is a Bluetooth-enabled pen that is used for writing on an actual writing pad. It enables users to write on real paper and then sends digitized copies of their notes to the smartphone. It’s not a stylus and can’t be used as one because it doesn’t work on touchscreens.

What we see in the image appears to be quite similar to the Moleskine Smart Writing Set so it’s possible that Huawei and Moleskine have joined forces on this. It’s also unclear if they have made modifications to the smartpen to make it double as a stylus as well.

We’ll only know for sure once the Huawei Mate 10 Pro is officially unveiled on October 16th.
