One small step towards self-realization for robots which could eventually wipe us out if all those sci-fi movies were to be taken as gospel, thanks to the efforts of students at the Intelligent Systems Laboratory (Nagai Lab) at the University of Electro-Communications (UEC). Known as DiGORO, he is able to learn through human instruction, although that will require a fair but of repetition before the robot is able to mimic the task. DiGORO also boasts object and face recognition, capable of adding to its vocabulary dynamically simply by extracting unknown words spoken by a person. It is 150cm tall and tips the scales at 120kg, getting up and around on a modified Segway.
