Gyroscopes The Size Of A Grain Of Sand Can Track You

The Israeli Department of Defense has come up with something small and cool, specifically the world’s smallest gyroscope, which is powered by lasers and is as small as a single grain of sand. The gyro is actually sensitive enough to be able to track your position and movements anywhere. The underlying technology is similar to that being used in aircraft and seafaring ships, with minute physical changes being compared to each other, calculating a new position without the need for an external reference point. The device will still need the help of some GPS information in order to find out where it is exactly, but the miniaturization of such technology is definitely something to cheer about, and perhaps it will make getting a GPS signal easier when you’re in an area with tall buildings, such as the city.
