Install Windows 8 in an alternate directory

As long as I can remember,we’ve all been forced to install the Windows operating system on your hard disk’s X:\Windows directory. Come next year, things are about to change. According to some reports from people who’ve been prodding around the innards of leaked versions of Windows 8, has the ability to store its Windows Installation files in alternate directories.

This means that we’ll be able to install the operating system in any folder we want, and possibly any available hard drive too. Users even have the option to specify more than one location if they choose to. We have no idea how multiple directories are going to work, but it’s good to see Windows 8 being customizable up to the point where you can even choose where your system files go.

But since Windows 8 has still got a long way to go before a complete, stable release, there’s no telling if we’ll be seeing this option in the final version of the operating system. It’s probably not going to be a deal breaker (in fact, most people don’t really care where Windows is installed) but some folks will be pleased to have the option.
