Leaks of software, upcoming hardware and updates are nothing new these days, what with the advent of ever smaller digital cameras, not to mention loose lips (which starts sending messages and hints via loose fingers subsequently) helping the cause of the rumor mill in the consumer electronics industry. Just a month ago, there was a leaked copy of an Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM for HTC’s EVO Shift 4G on Sprint, and it does seem as though the leak is being more or less ready to roll out to the masses thanks to an internal Sprint document which shows off the start of the EVO Shift 4G Android 2.3 Gingerbread availability from June 17th onwards – that is just one day away.

Waiting for another 24 hours at least will allow you to see whether you have gotten an OTA (Over The Air) update for Android 2.3 on your EVO Shift 4G, where the system software ought to be version 2.76.651.4 after installation. Should the 17th go by without that happening, fret not, as three days later will see Sprint notifying EVO Shift 4G users concerning the availability of a new update.

Apart from the standard bells and whistles associated with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, you can expect the EVO Shift 4G’s update to include Swype, a downloads manager, and fixes to several problems especially when it concerns streaming media.
