After introducing the “subscribe” button that makes Facebook more like Twitter or Google+, the world’s largest social network takes things one step further by introducing two new features today.

1/Top Stories

The news feed is going to get an upgrade with “top stories”. Today, the news feed is sorted by date, so you may  miss something really cool if you have been away for days as updates are simply pushed down. Not anymore says Facebook: with “top stories”, the best stuff stays in plain sight and is easier to find. I’ll go on a limb and assume that the “best” stories are those that get more likes, views or comments and share.

2/Ticker

Facebook wows to make the conversation more “real-time” as the “Facebook News Feed often has a time lag”, they say. Ticker is a notification system that alerts you of actions performed by the friends that are online so that you can reply right away if you choose to.

Tickers won’t mess with your newsfeed and comes in addition to existing Facebook features, so it should not perturb your Facebook flow. Users can control how many updates they see, so if things become a bit overwhelming, it is possible to tone them down.
