Paris is said to be one of the most romantic cities in the world, and you might opt to feel the love as Autolib introduces a unique new car sharing program that will rent out not gas guzzlers like Hummers, but rather, the earth loving, tree hugging electric vehicles (EV). This noble approach will see around 60 electric vehicles in the system that spans across ten stations throughout the city. Autolib’s program is said to be the world’s first electric car sharing program, where it will see the use of Lithium Metal Polymer batteries within that are manufactured by the Bollore Group.

The electric batteries inside are said to be super efficient, being able to stash away far more juice compared to any other existing electric vehicle, where it was specially designed to deliver a range of around 250 kilometers (155 miles) on a single charge. Currently, it is said that the electric car sharing project will undergo a 2-month trial, and should it prove to be successful enough, you can expect to see the fleet number raised to hit 250 vehicles by the time December 2011 rolls around.

Autolib is not going to stop there though, as they have a vision of growing the project to hit 2,000 electric vehicles that cover 46 regions throughout the country by the time June 2012 comes to an end. Interested? All you need to do is fork out a low annual subscription fee of 12 Euros each month for the privilege of driving these green vehicles.
