Some games have traditionally targeted boys, while others like a make-believe kitchen favors the ladies. Well, who would have thought that the day would come where LEGO might launch a line that was specifically engineered for women? We are talking about LEGO Friends here, where you will place your little LEGO creations in the imaginary Heartlake City. According to LEGO CEO Jorgen Knudstorp, “We want to reach the other 50 percent of the world’s children.” Is this a hidden admission that the Danish brick-making company previously focused their efforts on boys? Having said that, LEGO Friends will be a little bit larger than normal so that they are more accessory-friendly. Do you think a female-centric line for a traditional toy like LEGO is going to help boost sales, or do you not tinker with something that has worked fine for generations without altering the so-called “secret recipe”? I guess having a female-centric range might be appealing to some quarters, but the main money spinner would still be traditional LEGO.
