Did you know that Killzone 3 is already a year old? Yes sir, that is right, and this is a call for celebration, never mind that it is just the first anniversary. After all, not all video games are going to last as long as a solid marriage. Well, Sony is proud to announce that they have rolled out a standalone version of the game’s online component, right there on the PlayStation Store. It is known as “Killzone 3 Multiplayer,” where it will comprise the Guerrilla Warfare, Warzone, and Operations game modes, in addition to the original Killzone 3 maps as well as the entire gamut of Killzone 3 DLC maps.

Of course, since we are living in economically trying times at the moment, Sony understands one’s situation, and the good news is this – Killzone 3 Multiplayer is free to try, allowing you to enjoy just about any of the maps and modes until you finally arrive at the rank of Sergeant I. For those who do not get enough Killzone 3, then there is the option to do so by forking out $15, enabling you to achieve even higher ranks as well as earn any of Killzone 3 Multiplayer’s four exclusive new Trophies. As for folks who already own Killzone 3, this Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (until 2am PT) will be Double XP Weekend.
