Our smartphones can do amazing things, such as send emails, schedule appointments, search for restaurants, make video calls and whatnot, but here’s an angle that we’ve never really considered before: our smartphones can also double up as a self-defense device. No we’re not talking about beating your assailant over the head with your iPhone, but what about pepper spray?

Introducing the SmartGuard iPhone case which the company claims is the first iPhone case to include pepper spray for self defense. According to its manufacturer, the SmartGuard Pepper Spray iPhone case will feature a spray range of 1.5m (about five feet), and a total of six 1/2 second bursts to defend yourself with.

The case will also sport an integrated safety tab to prevent accident discharge, and the pepper spray canisters are also replaceable. You will be able to pick one up for yourself in either black, white or pink at SmartGuard’s website for €37.50 (~$50).
