Official integration between Android and iPhone devices for wireless, data-free file transfers is now a reality; Google’s Quick Share and Apple’s AirDrop protocols can natively communicate across a growing number of smartphones, allowing users to seamlessly send photos and videos between Android devices and iPhones, iPads, or MacBooks.
This cross-compatibility began in November 2025 when Google introduced the feature to the Pixel 10 series. Since then, the roster of compatible hardware has steadily expanded to include select devices from Samsung, Oppo, and Vivo, with the Xiaomi 17T Pro being the latest addition.
Compatibility is not universal; it requires specific processor hardware capable of interacting with Apple’s proprietary wireless protocol. Because of this physical constraint, older or unsupported Android devices cannot acquire the feature through software updates alone.
The current list of supported devices remains exclusive. Google expanded backward compatibility to the Pixel 9 series in February 2026. Samsung enabled the feature for select Galaxy models between March and April 2026, notably including the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition. Other major compatible flagships include the Oppo Find X9 Ultra and the Vivo X300 Ultra.
Currently Supported Android Devices
- Google: Pixel 10 series (including Pro, Pro XL, Pro Fold, 10a), Pixel 9 series (including Pro, Pro XL, Pro Fold), and Pixel 8a.
- Samsung: Galaxy S26, S26 Plus, S26 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition.
- Oppo: Find X9, Find X9 Pro, Find X9 Ultra, and Find N6.
- Vivo: X300 Ultra.
- Xiaomi: 17T Pro.
Future Outlook and Expected Devices
Technical requirements remain undisclosed, making future rollouts difficult to predict. While retaliatory software blocks from Apple were initially anticipated, the company has stayed silent, potentially influenced by European regulatory pressure advocating for open ecosystems.
Future compatibility is expected for Samsung’s Galaxy S25 and S24 series, the upcoming Z Flip 7, Z Fold 7, Z Flip 6, Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z TriFold. The Oppo Find X8, OnePlus 15, Honor Magic V6, and Magic 8 Pro are also projected to receive the feature.
