With Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system expected to arrive later this year, what will Windows 7 users do if they wish to upgrade? Purchase a brand new operating system? Perhaps not. As we had reported a couple of weeks ago, similar to their previous operating systems, Microsoft is expected to offer more recent Windows 7 users the chance to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for a small fee – $15 to be exact. However thanks to the folks at The Verge, this offer has seemingly been “confirmed” via sources who are supposedly familiar with the plan.

So will all Windows 7 users get the chance to upgrade to Windows 8? Assuming the details are to be believed, it looks like this upgrade will only be eligible for customers who purchase a Windows 7 computer from the Microsoft Store from the 2nd of June onwards. This deal will be available until the 31st of January 2013 and according to the reports, Microsoft is reportedly offering workshops to its customers as well to familiarize themselves with the basics of the upcoming operating system. Those who participate will be given a $20 gift card which we guess will pretty much make the upgrade free. Until Microsoft actually confirms the upgrade deal, we suggest taking this with a grain of salt for now.
