Nokia’s free Nokia Maps app has certainly helped folks get around without having to bust their budget on more expensive paid navigation solutions, and here we are with yet another interesting twist from Nokia with the introduction of HERE. HERE is said to be the first location cloud that delivers the world’s best maps and location experiences across multiple screens and operating systems, now how about that? Nokia intends to inspire an entire generation of location services with HERE, and Nokia President and CEO Stephen Elop said, “People want great maps, and with HERE we can bring together Nokia’s location offering to deliver people a better way to explore, discover and share their world. Additionally, with HERE we can extend our 20 years of location expertise to new devices and operating systems that reach beyond Nokia. As a result, we believe that more people benefit from and contribute to our leading mapping and location service.”

In order to extend its location services even further, Nokia will roll out a maps application for iOS under the HERE brand which will be based on HTML5, and it will come with offline capabilities, voice-guided walk navigation, and public transport directions. Apple’s App Store watchers can look out for this application in the coming weeks, where it will arrive as a free download. [Press Release]
