There are some things that are very Canadian, among them the amount of snow, the maple leaf, as well as BlackBerry. Yes sir, BlackBerry – the smartphone company that has not really been doing too well for quite some time already. In fact, Windows Phone has just narrowly edged out BlackBerry over in the US, and you know that times are getting desperate when BlackBerry’s CEO, John Chen, has called iPhone users as “wall huggers”, simply because the iPhone’s battery life tends to be a whole lot shorter, and needs to be hooked up to a power outlet more often than – a BlackBerry, I suppose, eh Chen? Come on now, surely we are above name calling? How about doing things with a little bit more class instead, like in the ad above? After all, if your product is good enough, folks would buy it.

Dave Hopkinson, the CCO of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which happens to be the company that owns the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs, being one of the original half dozen NHL franchises, also owns the NBA’s Toronto Raptors that leads the Atlantic Division at the moment, is a true blue Canadian company, so it makes perfect sense for Hopkinson to play the patriotic card and use a BlackBerry Z30 as depicted in the new 18 second commercial above. The ad calls Dave Hopkinson as one who is “Powered by BlackBerry.” Are you?
