iPad-Air-and-iPad-mini-640x528According to earlier reports, it was suggested that iPads are still leading the tablet market in the US, but based on Apple’s earnings call, sales of the tablet are starting to slip slightly. Is that bad news for Apple? Sure, a sagging in sales does look bad on paper, but according to Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, it’s not all doom and gloom.

According to Cook, he revealed that at least two thirds of people who registered their iPad in the past half year were new to the tablet, indicating that Apple is starting to attract new customers onto the device as opposed to seeing a repeat in sales. Of course repeat sales are always welcome but at the same time, new customers would indicate that there could be a growing interesting in said product.

Apple’s corporate controller, Luca Maestri, also provided evidence on how important the iPad is and how it is being used in all sorts of organizations, ranging from pilots, to companies looking to replace laptops, to those in the medical field, and of course, education.

Maestri was quoted as saying, “In education, according to the latest data published by IDC, iPad has over 95% share of the U.S. education tablet market as teachers and students increasingly benefit from the growing range of engaging iBooks, textbooks and solutions that are helping to transform the education experience.”

Given that the iPad is used differently from smartphones, perhaps it’s not so surprising that there are more new users than older ones, but what do you guys think? Is this a good sign for Apple’s series of tablets?
