ms-retires-skypeIt was earlier this month that we brought you word that Skype for Mac has received an update, and this time around, Microsoft has issued a warning to Skype users that this particular app will see older versions retire in due time, which means that one ought to get on with the program and update it to the latest model as soon as possible.

Skype is one of the more popular VoIP apps out there, where on the Android platform, Skype does offer an automatic update, although there is one particular caveat – users will have to manually enable the automatic update function. This means the onus falls on the user to actually perform the update him/herself. Apart from that, if you so happen to run an older operating system that Skype does not support, the update will not run automatically.

An email from Microsoft reads verbatim, “We are now retiring older versions of Skype and it appears that you’re currently using one of these. To continue signing into Skype on your mobile or tablet, you’ll need to download the latest version. The new version comes with improved performance, the latest features and security updates, so you’ll get the best possible Skype experience”.

Having said that, performing your very own update should not be too much of a hassle as it is a no-brainer operation more often than not.
