windows-8.1-update-1-screenshot-1The next major update for Windows 8.1 could be less than a month away if recent reports are to be believed. We had previously heard as far back as April that Windows 8.1 Update 2 will be released in August though this is the first time that someone has come up with an actual date. Obviously Microsoft has not confirmed it as yet so we must take it with a grain of salt.

This date comes from Russian site PCPortal.org.ru which claims that Windows 8.1 Update 2 is going to be released on August 12th. The site’s history compels many online outlets to believe that this might be true since their track record has been good in the past.

August 12th seems like the logical choice for the update to be pushed out, given that Microsoft rolls out bug fixes and new patches on the second Tuesday of each month. This is what Microsoft calls Patch Tuesday.

It is believed that Windows 8.1 Update 2 will bring new features and improvements for existing features, but none of this has been confirmed as yet. Conflicting reports have us believe that the update will only bring bug fixes and performance tweaks, no new features would be added since Microsoft is now focused on debuting Windows 9.

Return of the Start Menu was previously attached to Windows 8.1 Update 2 but the company is expected to bring it back with Windows 9 now, which some believe will be released as soon as April 2015.
