There have been studies that show that sitting down all day can be detrimental to your health, which is why office workers are encouraged to stand up and take short walks every now and then. This has also resulted in furnitures known as the standing desk in which users stand at their desks to work, as opposed to sitting in front of it.

Well if you’re interested in installing such a desk at your office place or even at home, you might be interested to learn that Swedish furniture maker IKEA has recently hopped on board the standing desk bandwagon with the Bekant. The idea of the Bekant is simple – press a button and the desk rises, press a button and it goes back down.

This isn’t as fancy as some of the other standing desk models we’ve seen out there, but we suppose it gets the job done, but if you wanted more advanced features like tracking calories burnt or the desk learning your habits, you’ll probably have to look elsewhere, but if you wanted something simple, this should be good enough.

Now in terms of price, safe to say that IKEA’s standing desk won’t be as cheap as their other tables due to the mechanism. They will start at $489 and can go up to $1,200 for the larger model that will accommodate two users. You can check it out by heading on over to IKEA’s website or see it in action in the video above.
