lenovo-k920-1While companies such as Xiaomi might not have the same presence in the market compared to giants like Samsung or Apple, they are doing very well for themselves in China and other Asian markets. Well it seems that Lenovo does not want Xiaomi to have all the fun as the company has recently announced that they plan to launch a new brand.

This new brand will be about smartphones designed specifically for the Chinese market. Unfortunately the name of Lenovo’s smartphone brand for China has yet to be determined, but the company has stated that they plan to officially open for business in April 20515. The goal of the company is to focus on branded applications, consumer engagement, and selling devices online.

However this does not mean that Lenovo will be giving up on smartphones. The Lenovo range of smartphones will still be around, it’s just that this particular brand will be designed to appeal to the Chinese market specifically, whilst Lenovo’s brand in general will appeal to more markets around the world.

It will be interesting to see what Lenovo has planned. As it stands China has many smartphone OEMs such as Huawei, ZTE, Xiaomi, and Oppo, just to name a few, which means that competition from local companies is already pretty stiff without the addition of international brands such as Samsung and Apple, but it will be interesting to see them try.
