twitter-crimeOnline harassment is nothing new and happens all the time, which is a bit unfortunate. While there have been methods created in the past to help combat online harassment and cyber bullying, it is safe to say that the practice still continues even until today, especially in the wake of Gamergate in which many female developers were harassed, with some even receiving death threats.

Well hoping to do something about it and prevent harassment in the future, Twitter has recently announced that they have struck up a partnership with the nonprofit group Women, Action & The Media. This is actually a big deal for Twitter as the social media platform has been criticized in the past for failing to address cases of abuse and harassment properly, so hopefully with this new partnership, Twitter will start taking things more seriously.

To help report the abuse and harassment, WAM has created a special form for users to fill up. This form will allow users to submit any issues that they might have come across, whether it be harassment directed at them personally, or if they see it happening to another user. WAM will then take the reports and escalate the matter to Twitter and will monitor how Twitter handles and responds to them.

According to WAM, “We’re so glad that Twitter recognizes that the best way to ensure equally free speech for all users on their platform is to ensure that all users are equally free to speak without being targeted by harassment, abuse and threats.”
