X (formerly Twitter) has launched a completely rebuilt Android application, fulfilling a major promise made by Elon Musk nearly a year ago. Available via the Google Play Store, the updated version was designed from scratch to deliver a faster, smoother, and more reliable user experience compared to its predecessor.

According to an official statement from the X Engineering team, the application’s underlying codebase has been thoroughly modernized. This architectural update improves core functionality across the board, optimizing feed scrolling, content loading speeds, and notification delivery systems.

Nikita Bier, Product Lead at X, revealed that the development process spanned nearly a year. The project was carried out by a dedicated engineering team that handled the primary design and coding directly, utilizing the Grok AI model only as a secondary tool to accelerate developer workflows.

Key Improvements and Upcoming Features

Beyond immediate performance gains, the new code foundation allows for faster feature deployment in future updates. Key capabilities supported and expanded in this architecture include:

  • Integrated Services: Streamlined performance for X Chat and the upcoming X Money ecosystem.
  • Live Audio & Video: Improved support for Spaces, live audio streaming, and real-time interactive reactions during broadcasts.
  • Financial & Custom Feeds: Enhanced integration for cashtags and custom timeline configurations.

Additionally, the update aligns with recent platform enhancements, such as a newly launched professional-grade video editor featuring advanced tools like chroma key support.
