Some manufacturers are trying their hand at larger tablets. While 7-inch and 10-inch tablets are a dime a dozen in the market only a few manufacturers are daring to touch the 12-inch barrier. Even Apple is expected to do the same in 2015 by launching what’s commonly referred to as the “iPad Pro.” A new rumor suggests that Sony may walk down this path as well and launch its own Android powered 12-inch tablet.

Despite the fact that there have been countless rumors about the iPad Pro so far Apple hasn’t dropped any hints that might confirm such a product is on the cards. Just a couple of months back the company refreshed its iPad lineup and didn’t say anything about a 12-inch tablet.

According to supply chain sources cited by Digitimes Sony’s large tablet is going to be released in the first half of 2015, with the device expected to enter mass production in the near future. Apparently this tablet will be geared primarily towards the high-end segment so it is rumored that it may cost over $1,000.

Sources also said that the tablet has a 12.9-inch 3,840×2,400 pixel resolution display, 8 megapixel camera, a Qualcomm processor in a package that’s only 8.6mm thick. Android 5.0 Lollipop will presumably be pre-installed.

If this tablet is destined for the first half of 2015 then its possible that we might get to see it at Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona. Sony itself hasn’t commented on this rumor so take it with a grain of salt for now.
