Late last year Apple unveiled its new payments service called Apple Pay. The service was then launched with support from almost all major credit card companies in the United States, Visa, MasterCard and American Express to be precise. Discover was missing from the list and it wasn’t immediately clear if and when Discover card support would be added to Apple Pay. A few months after the service was launched it has now been confirmed when Apple Pay users will be able to use their Discover cards with the payments service.

Since its launch in October last year Apple has gradually been adding more banking partners so that the most amount of people can use its payments service.

Questions were obviously asked about Discover and there was no concrete statement from Apple or the credit card company for that matter, so all we could do was wait and see if support for Discover cards would be added to Apple Pay at some point.

It has been announced today that Discover card support for Apple Pay is indeed coming, though we’ll have to wait until the fall. That’s when Apple Pay will tout support from all four major credit card companies in the United States.

The announcement doesn’t make it clear why it took so long for Discover to hop on the Apple Pay bandwagon, but now that it has, that’s all that matters.
