twitch_whisperSay you’re watching a particularly entertaining stream on Twitch and maybe you have some advice for the person streaming it, or you want to call one of your friends to come over and check it out. Well you will be pleased to learn that Twitch has recently announced Whisper. Whisper is a new feature of Twitch that allows for private messaging without you leaving the current chat window.

As you can see in the screenshot above, basically your private messages to and from the other person will be displayed in the same window as the regular chat, except that no one else can see it aside from you and the person you’re chatting with. That being said while it is a useful feature, we have to admit that with Twitch’s colorful chats and icons, it looks a bit confusing and could be easily lost in a sea of messages.

However this is something Twitch plans to work on. The company has revealed that future plans for whisper includes offline message delivery and popout instant messages, just to name a few. Unfortunately there was no mention of whether it could be possible to create a private group chat, but hopefully that is one of the new features that Twitch is working on.

The feature should already be live so if this is something you’ve been meaning to try, fire up Twitch and start messaging away!
