Microsoft debuted its virtual private assistant called Cortana on Windows Phone, later the assistant was expanded to other platforms as well, such as Windows-powered PCs and even Android. The company has been internally testing Cortana for iPhone for about six months now and today it announced that the beta version is here, however the beta version won’t be available to everybody. Microsoft invites people to sign up and it will only provide the beta to a select number of people who sign up for the opportunity.
“We want help from our Windows Insiders to make sure she’s a great personal assistant on iOS too,” says Microsoft, adding that it’s looking for a limited number of people who will get their hands on an early version of the Cortana for iPhone app.
The company is now taking sign ups for Cortana for iPhone, initially users from the United States and China can only sign up for this opportunity. The beta app won’t provide all of Cortana’s features on iOS, “hey Cortana” isn’t supported as well.
As far as looks go Cortana for iOS isn’t that different from what it looks like on Windows 10 Mobile or Android and the core features also work about the same way. The beta version will allow users to send emails, schedule events and reminders using the personal assistant.
Those who are interested in getting a chance to take Cortana for iPhone for a spin, they first have to complete a survey before Microsoft decides just how many people are going to get the download links for this app. The company doesn’t say when it thinks the app will be ready for public release.
