It looks like a French consumer group has decided to go to the courts by bringing the Steam user agreement as a point of contention. Valve, the company behind the Steam user agreement, is being sued by this very same French consumer group as the latter feels that the terms and conditions of the Steam user agreement happen to be “detrimental to consumer interests.”
Redditor Silencement claims that consumer rights group UFC-Que Choisir stated just because the Steam’s user agreement does have a prohibition against the resale of digital games, this does not mean that the same will apply and is permissible in French law.
Apart from that, the lawsuit also has some beef with Valve’s refusal to assume responsibility whenever accounts are hacked and one’s information gets stolen, in addition to automatic ownership of any kind of user-created content that appears on Steam, and also for the very real fact that you are unable to receive anything in return on your Steam Wallet should your account be closed or banned. Basically, regardless of where one is worldwide, Valve has decided to make sure that the consumer laws of Luxembourg are applied.
